Legend dating back to 1877 tells of a bet to solve the highly contested theory concerning a horse’s gallop. The theory was whether or not a galloping horse has all four hooves off the ground at any moment in time during its run. Eadward Muybridge (Figure 2) finally solved this mystery by setting up a series of 24 still cameras and thread tripwires which extended across a track. The tripwires triggered photo shots when the horse passed through (Figure 1). He discovered something else in the process. This stack of 24 photos, once developed and flipped through (like a book), gave the appearance of the horse running down the track. This gave birth to motion picture.
